Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings

Chicago - USA - October 8th 2009
David Fisher made a presentation at the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings (CCHRB) which is a not-for-profit organization, founded to investigate problems or enhancements, support research and disseminate information for economic design, construction, operation and rehabilitation of high rise buildings. The Committee consists of approximately 81 specialists which includes: architects, engineers (including structural, geo-technical, M/P/FP/E and others), specialty consultants (including elevator, acoustics, fire protection/life safety, cladding and others) building owners and building managers, general contractors, specialty contractors, representatives of professional organizations, and members of the legal profession. The Executive Director/Department of Construction and Permits, Commissioner of Buildings, and the Deputy Commissioner/Bureau of Fire Prevention of the City of Chicago participate as ex-offico members.
The founders of the CCHRB first met in 1968. The original By-Laws were adopted on May 6, 1969, making it reportedly the first organization in the world established for the specific purpose of the advancement of all aspects of knowledge of high rise buildings. The Committee holds monthly meetings, while the various Task Forces meet on an as-needed basis to address special topics.
David Fisher challenged some of the internationally most experienced experts in the design and construction of tall buildings, that made Chicaco the “City of Skyscrapers” as he believes that buildings until now were built, somehow, similar to the way the ancient Egyptians built their pyramids. From now on, according to Fisher, construction will have a different approach, buildings will be an industrial process and skyscrapers will be mainly  expression of engineering, based on automobile and aircraft technology and designed mainly to be sustainable.
Chicago, as stimulated by its Mayor Richard M. Daley is known to be the city, more than any other, that appreciate green values and sustainability.
